Found a Guest you want to connect with? Schedule an interview with them to better understand if they will be a good fit for your home. Many hosts do interviews by video or phone call if the Guest does not currently live nearby.
1. Schedule Interview
When first contacting a Guest of interest make sure to request a time they are available for a more in depth interview. Since many Happipad Guests are relocating from other cities or countries you may need an alternative to a face to face interview. Fortunately, it is easy to make free video or phone calls to Guests, even if they are outside Canada. Remember to compare time zones to ensure the arranged interview time will work for both parties.

2. During the interview
We recommend following our Interview Guide when interviewing your prospective Guests.
Background: This is an opportunity to learn about the Guests lifestyle, habits, and interests. Ask if they have any experience living with other people and what they learnt from that experience. Do you feel your lifestyles will be compatible to share your home?
Daily activities: What is each person’s typical daily routine? Will your schedules clash in the morning or evening? Having different schedules can make it easier to share common spaces. If your schedules are similar, how will you share the space?
Use of home: Review each area of the home and how you intend to use and share it. This is a great opportunity for the Guest to understand how busy the home is and what they can expect sharing your home.
Amenities: What is provided in your home and what will the Guest need to provide? Does your home have parking, storage for bicycles, or other things that might matter to the Guest? What amenities are close to the home? Where is the nearest bus stop, grocery store, and gym?
Cleaning and organization: Each person typically has their own definition of what clean and tidy means. Discuss what your expectations are for cleaning the home, give specific examples.
Conflicts: Disagreements may arise at some point during your living arrangement and this is completely normal. Discussing how you will communicate and resolve these difference ahead of time will make it much easier to reach a solution. Hosts who have discussed this in advance tend to have much higher satisfaction with their shared living arrangement.
Special considerations: Are there any special considerations either person should be aware of? Are there any special exceptions you are willing to make, such as if the Guest has a family member who wants to visit?
Extra help around the house: Many Hosts will offer reduced rent or other compensation for help with pet sitting, driving, yard work, or other tasks. Discuss any requests with the Guest to see what is fair.
3. After the Interview
After you have interviewed a prospective Guest you can Accept or Decline their application. Guests can only apply to a limited number of properties, by declining their application you will be allowing them to apply to another property.
Accepting application – This will generate a legal rental contract between the Host and Guest. You can adjust the price of rent and move-in/move-out dates here. This will send the contract to the Guest for review and signing.
Declining application – Declining an application allows the Guest to apply to other properties. It is encouraged to decline applications if you do not intend on renting to them.
